Montebello Housing 1st Annual
Fundraising Dinner
MHDC would like to thank all those that attended
our first annual homeownership awards dinner in support of
our education programs. The dinner was a great
success, special thanks to Victor Ramirez of
Citibank and Harold Hutchinson of Washington Mutual
for their major contribution as Gold Sponsors.
Over 90 people attended the MHDC's first
homeownership awards
dinner. Bobby Z and the Band performed and
guest, sponsors, and MHDC staff recognized the Fregoso Family and the Beas Family. Attendees
heard the hardships that families endured before
seeking help from Montebello Housing. The
dinner was held in honor of all the families helped
by MHDC over the years to purchase a home and learn
about the home ownership process.
Proclamations and Recognitions were given to the
Families, the Sponsors, and to MHDC staff from State
Senator Barbara Boxer, Congresswoman Grace
Napolitano, and Assemblyman Ron Calderon. |

El Monte Housing Fair a success
Over 450 people attended the City of El Monte
Housing Opportunities Fair held at the Grace Black
Auditorium in the City of El Monte. The event
had three separate break out sessions presented by
the Arcadia Association of Realtors regarding "why
use a realtor when buying a home", Washington
Mutual's own Harold Hutchinson spoke regarding First
Time Homebuyer programs, and MHDC's Lourdes Ortiz
spoke regarding Home buyer education classes and
programs offered free to the public. "The City
of El Monte wants to get this important information
to the residents of El Monte in order to promote
home ownership said" Vice Mayor Juventino "J" Gomez.
Juventino "J" Gomez also helped MC the event along
with Board President Robert Monzon of MHDC.
"We are glad to partner up with Vice Mayor Gomez,
the Arcadia Association of Realtors and 60
Exhibitors to provided this important information on
preparing yourself for homeownership, I also want to
thank our sponsors Washington Mutual and Chase
Financial for their financial support without them
this size event would not be possible" said Robert
Monzon. In attendance was also Mayor Art
Barrios and Councilmember Ernest Gutierrez along
with representatives from the Office of Hilda Solis,
and Judy Chu. |

4th annual Greenwood Community
Clean
Over 200 volunteers and organizers show up to
support this years Greenwood Community Clean up.
In attendance where members of Montebello Rotary
Club, Lions Club, and various City Officials.
The event was opened by comments from City of
Montebello Mayor Bill Molinari. MHDC would
like to thank our sponsors California Community Bank
Mr. Santos Rodriguez, Sincere Escrow, Curves and
many more for making the event a great success.
Kudos to the Greenwood Associations for the great
work they are doing in South Montebello,
commendations to Beverly Johnson, Ruben and Mary
Beas, and the rest of the Greenwood Association
Board . The Montebello Housing Development
Corporation thanks everyone that supported the

Advocacy Work in Washington DC
and Sacramento
Montebello Housing Development has been busy
lately with advocacy work in both Washington DC and
Sacramento. MHDC joined a delegation from
California to Washington DC to visit with
Congressional and Senatorial representatives.
On the agenda was informing legislators of the
important work that is done by NCLR affiliates
including the work of MHDC. In Sacramento MHDC
joined a Statewide delegation of NCLR affiliates and
met with representatives from the Assembly and the
Senate. Robert Monzon Board President of MHDC
made a presentation to the Affiliates regarding
housing and asked that the NCLR affiliates visiting
the Capitol also include Housing Legislation as part
of their activities. NCLR affiliate advocated
for Education, Health, Immigration and two bills
related to Housing. Present during the two
days of activities where Janet Murguia CEO of NCLR
and Monica Lozano Board President of the National
Council of La Raza. |

Montebello Housing Fair at Quiet
Cannon Facility well attended
This years Montebello Housing Fair
had over 400 attendees. The partnership between the
Montebello Housing Development Corporation and the
Montebello Board of Realtors was a major success.
"The homebuying education class was standing room
only" claimed Robert Monzon Board President and
presenter for the day. The event included
participation from local realors, lenders, and other
non-profit corporation offering community services
and programs related to housing. Of the Board of
Realtors recognized at the event for their support
where Mike Garcia California Association of Realtors
Boardmember, Irma Acosta Montebello Board of
Realtors Executive Director, and Jay Avirom
President of the Montebello Board of Realtors. |

East Los Angeles Housing Fair at
Centro Maravilla
MHDC in partnership with B of A,
Washington Mutual, and Countrywide Bank hosted a
successful Housing Opportunities Fair in East Los
Angeles. In attendance was over 350 local
residents eager to hear about programs and services
offered by the sponsors and the Montebello Housing
Development Corporation. Priscilla M.
Hernandez field representative of Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger's office presented MHDC and sponsors
with recognition plaques for their participation and
work addressing the needs of the community to
increase home ownership. Congresswoman Grace
Napolitano, Hilda Solis who's staff provided
information regarding the IRS Tax I.D. Number
application that can be used to open bank accounts
even if clients do not have a social security
number. Special thanks to Laura Jimenez from
Senator Gloria Romero's office for her presentation,
and Mr. Mohammed Centro Maravilla Director.
